Golden Retrievers were developed in the Scottish Highlands in the mid-19th century by Lord Tweedmouth, who crossed a yellow Flat-coated Retriever with the now-extinct Tweed Water Spaniel.
- Bred as gundogs to retrieve shot waterfowl during hunting. Their soft mouth ensured undamaged retrieval.
- Consistently ranked top-5 in AKC registrations globally. Known for service, therapy, guide, and search & rescue roles.
- One of the most popular breeds in Indian metros, especially Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi, despite climate challenges.
